Molecular Diagnostic and Capacity Building Workshop on Influenza A H1N1/2009 virus and other respiratory diseases of Swine in the Caribbean Region

The Sub-regional Coordinator of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Barbados with the French Agricultural Research Centre for Development  (CIRAD) organize an activity of the Project TCP/RLA/3306 (D): “Technical assistance for surveillance of Influenza A H1N1/2009 virus and other Influenza viruses in swine populations in the Caribbean region”. CIRAD Guadeloupe will be hosting a Workshop on the diagnosis of Influenza A H1N1/2009 virus and other respiratory diseases of swine in Petit Bourg, from 31st January to 3rd February 2012.

This FAO/Cirad Co-funded workshop is a follow-up to the “Field Surveillance, Epidemiology and Risk Communication Workshop for Swine Influenza viruses in the Caribbean Region”, which was held in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago in July, 2011.

The major objective of the four days workshop is to introduce participants to molecular diagnostic training for Influenza viruses with particular focus on Reverse-Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) and with laboratory quality assurance principles.
