Starting: November 5, 2007 Duration: 5 months For more information click here Training in epidemiology OECS 2005 The Embassy of France to the OECS funded, via its regional cooperation platform, a series of short training courses in epidemiology in Dominica, St Vincent and Grenada in October 2005. The EMVT Department of CIRAD in Guadeloupe was in charge of organising the training programme aimed at teaching epidemiology basics to veterinary surgeons and technicians of the various Ministries of Agriculture. Presentations used during the training are available for download:
- Diseases and populations - Determination of disease frequency - Diagnostic tests - Epidemiological surveys - Epidemic investigation - Epidemiological monitoring Research on heartwater at the EMVT Department of CIRAD in Guadeloupe The Animal Production and Veterinary Medicine Department of CIRAD (French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development) in Guadeloupe is the OIE reference laboratory for heartwater. It conducts research on various aspects of the disease:
- Epidemiology: understanding disease transmission, pathogen diversity and risk factors; evaluating the impact of vaccine methods in farming systems - Immunology: characterization of the immune response induced by Ehrlichia ruminantium and by different antigen delivery systems - Vaccine development: use of biocomputing (genomics, proteomics and transcriptomics) to identify new potential antigens; development of new generation vaccines (multivalent heartwater + anaplasmosis vaccines) The EMVT Department in Guadeloupe has a long tradition of welcoming students and trainees of various backgrounds (veterinary medicine, animal production, biochemistry, etc) in its laboratory.
