CaribVET coordination team wishes you a Happy New Year 2009
The CaribVET newsletter has been reactivated and will allow you to get information regarding the network's activities and the major sanitary events. The website has been modified to allow a more efficient browsing (google search tool, new top menu). A Forum has been created to allow more interaction between the different working groups. This forum is available only in loggin mode, and is situated on the right end side of the website home page. Summaries and presentations of the last CaribVET meetings and workshops are available in the Meetings menu (see the abstracts below). Information about diseases present in the region has been updated and new diseases technical cards have been added (e.g. avian diseases, CSF).

First VEP training: Basic epidemiology 14-18 July 2008 Santo Domingo

The first official training of the VEP (Veterinary Epidemiologist/Para-epidemiologist) team took place in Santo Domingo from the 14th to the 18th of July 2008. This workshop took the form of both practical and theoretical sessions and was facilitated by many experts in the field of epidemiology and data management.

VEPs attend Live Bird Marketing System Training Course August 19 – 21, 2008 Storrs, Connecticut

The VEPs from Barbados, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Haiti, St. Kitts and St. Lucia attended the LBMS course. More than eighty participants from across the United States of America, the Caribbean and South America were in attendance. Though the majority of attendees were veterinarians; animal health technicians, laboratory personnel and veterinary students were also present.

Third workshop of the CaribVET epidemiology working group December 8 – 12, 2008 Havana, Cuba

On December 8, 2008, the Caribvet epidemiology working group led by Dr. Thierry Lefrancois of CIRAD convened a working session at Hotel Seville, Habana, Cuba. The meeting was facilitated by Centro Nacional de Sanidad Agropecuaria (CENSA) and was received by Maria Irian Percedo Abreu a member of the Caribvet epi-working group.
