A well-structured Network

At regional level, CaribVET is composed by:

Steering Committee

Co-planning of the strategy and of activities during annual meetings with 48 partners: Chief Veterinary Officers (CVOs) from 34 Caribbean countries/territories (Caricom Member States, Caricom Associate Member States, French, US and Dutch territories as well as Cuba and the Dominican Republic as Spanish speaking countries), 3 regional organisations (Caricom, CAHFSA and CARDI), 5 international organizations working in the field of Health and Agriculture (OIE, FAO, USDA, PAHO, IICA), 2 research institutes (CENSA, CIRAD) & 4 universities (University of the West Indies, University of Saint Georges, Ross University School Veterinary Medicine and University of Guyana). 

Specific roles

  • Determine the main orientations of CaribVET,
  • Define regional strategies and priority actions concerning animal diseases, surveillance and control (eradication, emergency preparedness),
  • Make recommendations on regional strategy: for safeguarding animal health and strengthening national and regional surveillance,
  • Periodic assessment towards the usefulness and relevance of the organization of CaribVET in meeting the animal health surveillance needs of the Caribbean Countries.

Coordination Committee

Planning, supervising & coordinating of all activities.

Specific roles

  • Maintains the link between members and collaborators,
  • Facilitates the implementation of different projects and activities conducted by CaribVET,
  • Ensures regularly the effective operation of the working groups,
  • Organizes CaribVET meetings,
  • Centralizes information (protocols, meetings, congress…) and shares them with the members and collaborators,
  • Conducts research activities for the benefit of the network.

9 Working groups

Implementing regional activities and surveys with respect to decisions and recommendations of the SC focused on regional priority diseases. There are 4 Transversal workings groups ("Epidemiology and Surveillance", "Laboratory, Quality Assurance and Diagnostic", "Communications", "One Health", "Research" and 4 Disease(s) Specific working groups: Avian Diseases, Swine Diseases, Vectors and Vector-borne Diseases, Veterinary Public Health.
