GEOVET 2016 “Using GIS Tools in a Hyperconnected World”, Valdivia, Chile, 7-11 November 2016

GEOVET 2016 is the third such GIS conference. GEOVET is held every three years (previously New Zealand and England). It provided an international forum for researchers, policy-makers and agencies that use spatial epidemiological methods to present, review and discuss methods and GIS applications.

Bryan Sanford, Veterinary Inspector of the Ministry of Agriculture of Barbados and member of the CaribVET Avian Influenza, Epidemiology and Ticks Working group attended the conference.

63 Participants from Government Departments, Universities, International Organisations, Governmental Departments and Research Institutes were in attendance.

Participants represented many countries including Australia, New Zealand, USA, United Kingdom, Chile, Georgia, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Nigeria, Rome (FAO), Korea, Japan, Barbados, Belgium and Norway to name a few.

Conference topics included data management systems, surveillance, statistical and modelling approaches, the application of geographic information systems and remote sensing applications in veterinary science, veterinary public health and zoonotic disease research and control activities and education in Veterinary Curricula. The topics covered included domestic animals (terrestrial and aquatic), wildlife and human population.
