Colleagues from the British Virgin Islands safe after heavy rains early August

Little attention was given to the disaster that affected the Bristish Virgin Islands on August 7th, after a tropical wave unleashed torrential rains in the North Caribbean.

The archipelago had unprecendented experience of 17 inches (432 mm) of rain resulting in flash floodings and important infrastructure damages as well as interruption of water distribution system and electricity. Tortola was most particularly affected.

Dr. Latisha Martin (veterinary officer from the British Virgin Islands) and member of CaribVET shared news with the members of the network through Whatsapp and reassured us that "everyone was Ok and that major clean ups were taking place where they have managed to make the roads passable in most areas". She shared pictures of some of the damages they observed on the road, in streets or on the coast.

The Caribbean Animal Health network expresses its solidarity with the people of the British Virgin Islands and the colleagues from the Agriculture and health sector.
