New sub-regional representative for OIE Central America

The Region of the Americas welcomes the new Representative Sub-Regional of the OIE for Central America, Dr. Emerio Serrano Ramírez.

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Specialist in Epizootiology, Dr.Serrano has developed clinical field activities in cattle, sheep, goats and horses during his career. He also has more of 30 years of experience in managerial work within the Veterinary Services at the regional, provincial and national levels of the Institute of Veterinary Medicine of Cuba, his country of origin.

As Specialist in Epizootiology he participated in the preparation, implementation, conduction and evaluation of prevention programs, control and eradication of endemic diseases and National emergency services for exotic diseases in his country. In addition, he assisted in the design, implementation and Epizootiological Information and Surveillance System of the Republic of Cuba.

Dr. Serrano also developed and directed prevention programs, confrontation and mitigation of health disasters, and participated actively in the preparation of the Decree Law of Veterinary Medicine in his country. He has directed several international projects in the field of Health Animal, sponsored by FAO, PAHO / WHO and IAEA. He participated in numerous missions for the evaluation of the benefits of the Services Veterinarians as an expert in the OIE and in support of the Control of foot-and-mouth disease in Latin America. He has also participated In technical cooperation missions of Cuba in countries of the area and in Angola.

Delegate of Cuba before OIE from 1987 to 2011, he had the position of President or Vice-President of the CommissionOf the OIE for the Americas. Distinguished with the Gold Medal of the OIE in 2010.
