The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE)organizes a workshop on official recognition of Foot and Mouth-Disease (FMD) free status for Caribbean countries thanks to the generous funding of the Government of Brazil. This workshop aims at training the relevant veterinary professionals of Caribbean countries (including OIE Members and non-OIE Members) on the requirements and procedures for official recognition of FMD free status as well as on the requirements for early warning system, prevention and surveillance. CaribVET will collaborate in the implementation of the main recommendations of the workshop.

One of the major research partner of CaribVET, the National Center for Animal and Plant Health (CENSA, Cuba), is organizing a regional workshop on "One Health" 12-13 October within the framework of the 2nd International One health day (November 3th) and the International Day for Disaster Reduction (Oct 13).
The theme of the workshop is "Moving towards a healthier and safer world - One Health, a renewed integrating approache to the increasing global health risks".

In the Caribbean region, there are 10 countries known to be endemic for rabies with three distinct rabies reservoirs: dogs, mongooses and vampire bats. The regional survey conducted by CaribVET in 2015 indicated that while most of these countries have some type of rabies surveillance program, few of the other (non-endemic) countries conduct any structured surveillance for rabies particularly for sylvatic rabies.
