CaribVET member of Regional Agriculture Emergency Response sub-committee

The 71st Special meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development of CARICOM (COTED) on Agriculture approved the Regional Emergency Response Sub-Committee to provide prompt action to help the agriculture sector in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Member States to rebound after natural disasters. CaribVET is one of the organisations represented in this sub-committee.

Other organizations represented in the subcommittee are FAO, the CARICOM Secretariat, Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), IICA, Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH), Caricom Secretariat, Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI), the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH), the Caribbean Plant Health Directors (CPHD), the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC). Belize and Antigua and Barbuda will also be represented on the sub-committee.

Developing protocols to safeguard human and livestock health and coordinating technical support for the rehabilitation of sectors are among the missions of this sub committee. This Committee will work closely with CDEMA in assisting in the mobilisation of resources with International and Regional Development Partners for quick start-up of short-term food crops and livestock production.
