April: the month of Biosecurity, April 2016, Guyana, Trinidad, Tobago

Three workshops on poultry biosecurity were held in different Caribbean countries:

  • April 16th in Guyana, Dr. Cedric Lazarus has lead the workshop,
  • April 19th in Trinidad, Drs. Lisa Musai, Pattie Bedford and Joanne have coordinated the 8th Poultry Biosecurity Workshop,
  • April 21th in Tobago, the 9th Poultry Biosecurity Workshop was facilitated by Drs. Pattie Bedford and Joanne Caruth along with infection control nurses.

Firstly, an overview of Avian Influenza was exposed to the participants, followed by a discussion of the risk factors for introduction of Avian Influenza into a poultry flock and the bases of biosecurity were explained. Furthermore, during the workshops, group sessions were created to exchange between participants and experts about biosecurity and the measures to take into account for the poultry farms.
